Hi,

How to differentiate between a main production order and sub production order in AX2012?

There is no real difference because they are production orders, but you could use the production pool or group to help identify them. AX sees no need to differentiate - they are ultimately related - why do you want to differentiate?

I have a customization requirement wherein I have to generate custom prod IDs for main production order and sub production order.So I want to know if there is a differentiating factor between the both ?

No not in standard AX. Reference orders would be linked, but sub-production could be driven by a number of reasons. You cannot just customize this without knowing “why” they want it and the processes they undertake. You could arguably use the level of the parent from the item record, or use the explosion elements if run. Difficult to answer from a customization perspective depending upon the actual requirement definintion within the process and configuration.
