Can anyone please advise how to upload the excel file (saved in text - delimited tab format) into Navision? I have tried couple of times but it gives me an error stating that to empty the existing batch. I working in accounting and am a beginner in Navision. Any comments/advice is highly appreciated.

The easiest approach would be using dataports. If you are a beginner then I recommend you to take trainings and read about Navisionand Database before you proceed anything.
Create a data port in the Navision, Select the fields that you want to upload for that object.
Create the excel file that represent the data of the fields of dataport. Save that file in csv(Comma delimited) file format somewhere in the hard drive. Go to the dataport, run the dataport and select the CSV file you want to import.
you should be able to do that. I am not sure Navisio supports text delimited tab format or not.
