I am new to AX and have noticed that we are setting up the same operations over and over for items. Is there a way of having a route and/or BOM template so you can use this to copy each time?

It is standard practice in AX to use a BOM for more than one product especially if the operations are the same.
If this is the case in your environment, you could benefit and maybe only have to change work centres.
It makes no real industrial sense to create another BOM where an existing one will do.
