Navision 3.7 in the Service Sector

Afternoon All A quick question for all of you… apologies to anyone outside of the UK who doesn’t understand some of the terminology, but please reply if you have ideas… [:)] My client works in a Joint venture (PPP) agreement with the Local Education Authority of a County Council in England. They provide services, consultancy and advice to schools who opt to ‘purchase’ those services from them - ostensibly taking over from the LEA. Navision is the group-wide financial and business management solution. My clients’ parent company is one of the worlds largest defence contractors - specialising in the building of warships and munitions. Whilst I have seen Navision work quite happily in a ‘manufacturing’ or ‘construction’ environment, I have never yet known it to be applied in a service sector organisation. For example, the “Job” functions in Navision are great if you are planning for welding parts - one welder, one job… However, here, we have multiple consultants working on multiple (simultaneous) projects and ‘activities’. Very few of them have rigid, specified “jobs” and as such the ‘Job’ module is a little unfriendly. Does anyone have any examples of where Navision is being used to effect in a Service based organisation? If they do, have they any hints, tips or tricks which they are willing to share? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Rgds Mark

I believe there’s a guy in the US called Rick Baxtor that has created an addon for jobs. I can’t remember the name of his company. Anyone remember the name of his company?

Hello, We have a number of clients who use Jobs, including several service companies (Engine refurbishment, building maintainace, estate agents etc). Generally clients who use jobs, either use it at a very basic level, i.e. They create a job and post journals & invoices to it, but don’t budget or they have had significant modifications made to Jobs to make full use of them. I think the general rule is that if they can just use jobs at a basic level, then it will be very simple, but otherwise there will have to be significant changes.

Mark, we at ICM Solutions are specialised in only this kind of organisations. We have an official add-on for project oriented organisations. It is based on the standard navision project modules, but extended with a.o. calculations, planning, logistic integration, etc. Besides that, the navision service modules have been extended with an official add-on to support service processes. Also, a mobile solution and a planning solution have been fully integrated. If you want to know more, please feel free to contact me at peter@icm-solutions.nl

Peter Thanks for your reply. I would be interested to know more about the solutions which you offer. I did try to mail you directly but your mail server reports an invalid address. Regards Mark
