Item Numbers based on Item Group in AX 2009

Hi

I want to create Items number based on the Item groups. So that whenever I create new item the number should come based on Item group automatically.

Can someone help me regarding this.

You cannot achieve this as per standard AX? you need to customize it.

The same functionality is available for assets.(refer it for customization)

Or you could create templates per item group and use the standard functionality in this manner, but the user has to select it.

Your issue is that when you create a new item you do not tell it the item group initially so how does the system know - the user has to intervene and tell the system the group, which is why the templates work as standard.
