Migrate Nav 2009 Data to Nav 2013 R2

Hi Experts,

We are currently on Nav 2009 and we want to upgrade to Nav 2013 R2. The new version will be installed on a new server.

Please advise how to migrate data from 2009 on the old server to 2013 on the new server.

Awaiting for your reply.

Teena,

Kindly follow fillowing link to upgrade database from NAV 2009 to NAV 2013

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh169484(v=nav.71).aspx

Here is an example video of 2009 R2 to 2013. Similar concept to go to 2013 R2. Also follow the MS Docs.

Thanks, I will post back if everything goes well.

Correct me if I am wrong, from what I saw I need to install both Navision 2009 and Nav 2013 on the new server in order to do the migration. Am I right?

You can do migration of Database on Local Machine also by taking backup .Once you finished then transferred backup and restore to Server.

No need to install 2009 on the new server. After running step 1 of the Data Conversion Tools from the 2013 DVD, create a SQL backup and migrate. You can skip the migration if your SQL server is 2008 R2 or newer since you will access the same DB with 2013. Always have a backup of the 2009 DB before running any of the steps.

You don’t need to install the full version of 2013 on your new server either. Just copy the client folder to your programs folder and just access the DB with that version of “finsql.exe”. I have mine copied to the same install folder as 2013 R2

“C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Dynamics NAV\70\RoleTailored Client”

Then after proceed with step 2 of the Data Conversion upgrade process.
