If by “interop classes” you mean the .NET interop classes, they’re just wrappers to make consumption of the underlying COM objects easier and you can use the COM objects directly.
if you mean the COM objects, then you just gave up the only reasonable option, so you’ll have to give up one of your requirements (either inserting images or avoiding the interoperability interface).
