Can anyone tell me what is the difference between ax 7 and Dynamics 365 ?

Both are same. If you mean Dynamics 365 = Dynamics 365 for Operations.

  1. Initially people used to AX7, as it’s Build starting version with 7 (eg: 7.0.4425.16161)

  2. Now MS named it as Dynamics 365 for Operations.
    You can call either AX7 or Dynamics 365 for Operations.

AX 7 is a code name of the new major version of Dynamics AX following AX 2012. The official name of this version was Dynamics AX (without any version number); AX 7 isn’t and never was an official name.

Dynamics 365 is a pack a several business application from Microsoft, with a common licensing and some other benefits. Dynamics AX has been included in the pack under the name of “Dynamics 365 for Operations” or “Operations app”. This happened last autumn, when Microsoft also released Platform Update 3 and Application Update 1611 for Dynamics AX. Since then, the new name is used.
