I’ve been working on skills validation for manufacturing and I keep running into the same gap in D365 SCM.
Production Floor Execution does a great job with job registration, time tracking, material consumption, and quantity reporting. But there doesn’t seem to be a native way to:
-
Verify a worker is qualified/certified before they start a production job
-
Track certification expiry dates and trigger retraining when something lapses
-
Generate an audit trail proving that only qualified workers performed specific operations
For manufacturers under ISO 9001, IATF 16949, or FDA regulations, auditors expect this documentation. D365 HR has basic skills configuration, but it’s not connected to PFE in any meaningful way.
How are people solving this? A few options I’ve seen:
-
Excel/SharePoint skills matrices maintained manually (common but painful)
-
Custom Power Apps built on top of Dataverse
-
Third-party competency management tools alongside D365
-
Just… not tracking it and hoping for the best
With D365 Guides going end-of-support in December 2026, the whole connected worker / training verification conversation seems to be in flux.
Would love to hear what’s working (or not working) for others in this space.
