view columns disappear

Hi group.

My IT Manager gave me a new PC last Friday with Windows 7 - before I had a slower PC with Windows XP. While running in the old system I could create my own working area as needed usins “hide/show columns”, i.e. columns for the two type of dimensions we have defined and use all the time while creating purchase orders or posting in General ledger. And my set up of working areas was still there alsowhen the computer had been closed down.

But now my personalised working areas disappear each time Navision has been closed down and even when I leave Navision sleeping for while a to work in another program.

As far as i know it is a server based installation with a local user installation on my PC, and it is Navision Dynamich 5.0. We do not have any update service.

What have gone wrong here and what can I do to make it work again ?

Generally When modifying columns in NAV Classic Client, the settings are only saved when you close the Navision Client. It is at this point NAV updates the ‘fin.zup’ file which you should find in your application data folder. you can go directly to this folder by typing in %appdata% when you hit the start button and enter this command in the ‘search files and folders input box’.

I would check that there is a zup file there.

I would also try : ensure classic client is closed. rename fin.zup file to something else (like fin01.zup etc) if it is there. Open Nav client, modify column views etc. Close classic client. Then make sure zup file is created. reopen NAV client and check again.

Do you access Navision via a LAN or a terminal server?

Note Terminal Server’s can hold multiple fin.zup files for the same user as it can allow multiple sessions.

Thank you for your suggestions which put me and my IT manager on the trak - It turned out that we should tell the shortcut to Navision to always run as an administrator, then the program can remember the last settings also when under Windows 7.

So now I am back working Again [:)]

Thanks! [^]

Was the problem that your Win User Account dit not have permission to write into the ZUP-file location?
This and running on a terminal server, where all win-setups are discarded (not saved) on logout, are quite usual causes when ZUP is not working.
