The Dynamics Community Competion 2008

Dear members,

In November 2007 I announced the “The Dynamics Community Competion 2007” please see: http://dynamicsuser.net/forums/t/20633.aspx. It was supposed to run 1 month and then the winner would be announced. Sadly to say then the result was not exactly as planned. It turned out that there was problems in the point system and the person who was number one and two, only was it because we the “spam filters” for blog postings was not correctly in place (so several 100 blog comments had to be manually verified).

So together with the moderators we have decide to run the competion once again.

After a few years where the website of the Dynamics User Group has been a bit unreliable due to bad performing servers, then DUG is now back and better than before with the highest number of daily visitors ever. But we would love to see more members getting more active in the community. Because this is how we look at the Dynamics User Group. Dynamicsuser.net is not just a website, we are a community of end-users, consultants, recruiters, developers, sales people and freelancers etc. And in a community we help each other in whatever way we can.

Some users come here and just uses the search function and then read a few posts, before they jump to the next site or back to their work after having found the right answer to their problems. These users are of cause very welcome here. But the users we really love are the ones who sign up and become a member and contributes to the community. Most new members are beginners in the Dynamics world, and of cause start by asking a lot of question, but slowly we see that they know answers to some of the questions in here.

So therefor we will today start a competion to get more members active. The competion will be for all members of the Dynamics User Group, except admis and moderators.

Rules

Today 12pm CET I was running a dump of all members giving a complete list of the points of each member. April 30th. the competion will finish. During the next months I will periodically post the results to date, so that you can follow who is leading (only the top 50 will be listed).
Moderators cannot win the prices, but they will still be listed with their numbers according to their activity. Instead the price will go to the next on the list.

How do you win?

The winner will be the member who have gotten most new community points in the period of the competion.

How are community points calculated?

You get community points for everything you contribute to the community. And we see that the person who are asking the good questions as just as important and valuable as the ones answering the questions.

Posts and comments: So you get points (5) for all posts you make, even if you post a reply in a forum, write a blog entry, or make a comment to either a blog or file (in the download section). In the forums you also get 10 points for reply to your posts and 5 point for each person replying to your post (so if the same person replies more than once to the same posts it only counts as one). You don’t get points for reply to your own posts (except the 5 points for creating a new posts. Tip: Write good and interesting blog posts, for each reply you get 10 points. Come with great answers to the questions in the forums, answers other members want to rate or add to their list of favorites. Always write a “Thank you” reply (and mark who answered the post) when you have gotten an answer to your questions as that will give you additionally 5 points.

Upload files: You also get points (5) if you upload a file to the download section. And for each person who downloads the file you have uploaded, you get additionally 5 point. So if you have created a great little tool or add-on that you want to share with the community, and 100 members downloads this file, then you get 500 points. Please notice that the admins and download moderators will delete any copyrighted files.

Rating posts and files: You have properly also seen that some posts have been rated and gotten between one and five stars. This is a way for you to tell other members what you thought about this post or file. In the forums you can rate the specific reply (ex. if you think an answer was either very good or bad) or you can rate the original posts. In the blogs and download section you can only rate the original post. You get 5 point for each post that you are rating and the poster of the rated post get 10 points for each star you are giving the post.

Favorites: If you have a forum post which you think is something special and you like to be able to find again, then you can save this post as a favorite to your profile. If you do this then the person who posted the post will receive 25 points.

Friends: Are your fiends and co-workers members here? Do you want to win? Then tell them about the user group, tell them to become a member and to add you as a friend. If your friends and co-workers are already members, then still tell them to add you as a friend! For every person who have added you as a friend you get 100 points. So if you have 10 friends, then you get 1000 points!

Here is what you can win

Programming Microsoft Dynamics NAV - The new book by DUG member David Studebaker - or
Inside Microsoft Dynamics AX 4.0 - Need-to-knows for AX consultants and developers - or
Successfully Implementing Microsoft Dynamics - I haven’t actually read this book, but it sure sounds very interesting. It’s on my wish list for xmas…

If you win, then you can choose one of the above books. It will be shipped to the address you choose.

If you have any questions, then please post them here.

grrrrr.

Disagree. 20 points schould be the most. Just sign up 10 times and “be a friend” give 1000 points. Too high risk for fraud. And, in relation, you need to post in average 80 times to get 1000 points.

First, thanks Erik for your job creating and maintining this forum [^]

What I would like to add to your estimate of forum users above - besides you & team of moderators and other “Big Guys” on one side and

on the another there must be rather many “middle tier” users (like me [;)] ), who participate in DUG life periodically.

There are periods, when I have less my direct job (in-house consultant) and can manage to post here actively, then something goes nuts and I have no time even log in and see what happens in here for a month… But I return afterwards, because reading forum and posting answers is learning, too, and keeping yourself up-to-date - one more good reason to be here. Reading manuals and PartnerSource can help, but in forums like DUG you see the pulse of real life and real problems out there, which helps you to avoid mistakes already done by others [:D]

We have the mid-term results:

I think I gave to give up being moderator. Just kidding. [:P]

It’s an excelent good completion.

If you run an update and my posts get re-jigged to show the true number with the posts prior to the name change I should show several thousand as a March posting [:D] Although I think that must be broken or never run as the posts started at 0 when I changed the name last June!

I am a moderator anyway, but hey look at the points to post ratio [:D]

Yeah, somehow you have all your points, but not the posts! I still have that on my “to-do-list”…

Nuno,

You and the other moderators can still win the hounor!

The whole idea of the competion is really to make more of the new and previously not so active members more active.

And we can actually see that it works. Just look at the “Member Since” and how many of the new members are actually listed in the top 50! I think it’s wonderful to see.

nice competition, i have an idea that will make users a lot more active!

make the prise a Ferrari or Porsche!!!

What an idea Romeo!?!

Then I think you’ll start getting members, questions on all sorts of "Dynamics" rather than Microsoft Dynamics.

I personally feel that the prizes are very good, but have the same concern shared by Walter. By referring to the total new points in the last week, one can figure out how many new friends need to be made to win the competition.

With just 9 days left to go here are the results so far:

I know it’s only a day since my last update. But last night I was running the Point Update Job (without changing any of the parameters). This have made a few changes in the list topped with the latest posts the last day.

[:(]

Why sad? All the member names in italic are moderators and can not win (only the honour) so you only need about 500 more points. Get 5 of you friends to sign up and add you as a friend/favorite, or post 50 posts (in avarage you get 20 points - if somebody reply)…

And you still have a week to do this…

Even being an administrator I like more of this version [:P]

I’m not in it for the points, but I think it is a bit strange that I get a little over 1000 points for almost 100 posts, and someone else gets 2400 points for 8 posts.

Yes this is strange.

Because posts is not everything. It’s also based on how many have added you as a Favorite/Friend. Or if your posts has been rated very high (each star gives you another 10 point). Or if someone have added your posts as a Favorite. Or if you have uploaded files which have been downloaded by a lot of people.

So there are many ways to get points (just see me [;)])

i’m sad because someone with 8 posts is ranked higher than me [8o|]

Well Celenia has uploaded some very interesting files that many members has downloaded. I can only suggest you to develop a great NAV Application and upload it for everyone to download! [;)]
