The differences between Forecast Scheduling and master scheduling

Dear All,

Does Any one know what is the differences between forecast scheduling and master scheduling

Thanks in advance

Hi Rudy,

Master scheduling allows companies to determine & balance the future need for products to meet companies requirements. More specifically, it calculates the net requirements for items to fulfill the actual demand.

When you have made plans for the demand, you need to run the Forecast scheduling to calculate the gross requirement for the demand.

Hi,

thanks for your response.

How can i run the forecast scheduling.

When i run the forecast scheduling from periodic, the item doesn’t create in the plan order.

Thanks in advance

Hi Rudy,

To run the Forecast scheduling, go to Master Planning > Periodic > Forecast Scheduling.

In forecast scheduling, select the desired forecast plan and click Ok to run the forecast planning.

In order to check the result, Go to Product Information Management>Select the item for which you have made the plan >Plan tab > Gross Plan.

Thanks & Regards,

Hi,

I/m using Ax 2009.

I already check the result in gross requirement and no result.

To support the forecast scheduling, what kind of setting that i must prepare.

Thanks in advance

You need to create a forecast on the item

You need to create forecast plans

You need to reference the forecast plan in the master schedule

You need to run the forecast schedule

You then need to run the master plan.

If you set an item with 0 requirements and a forecast of 5 and do it all correctly it will plan to buy 5 based upon a forecast you will see in the net requirements.

Hi Adam,

Thanks for your explanation.

Another question, beside that , we must for static plan or dynamic plan.

What are the differences ?

Thanks in advance

You do not have to have 2 plans

One is at the point of the last master planning run (static) the other shows changes since the last run.

Hi Steven ,

What is static Vs dynamic plan and explain with an example ?

Hi Lally

If you search for “static plan” you will see this has been discussed several times.

Hi ,

You run the plans based on periodic options.

Is Forecast Scheduling a mandatory pre-requisite for all scenarios where Forecasts exist in AX2012?

Under what conditions can Forecast Scheduling be omitted?

Hi George

You do not have to run forecast scheduling independently, it can in AX2012 be run as part of the master scheduling run. If you are updating the forecast and do not want the current results so not run forecast scheduling it will take the old settings, but in reality if you are entering forecasts you want planning to consider them so you would run forecast scheduling to allow master planning to run with the latest figures and plan accordingly.

Thank you Adam. I have seen Forecast Scheduling and Master Scheduling bundled into a single Batch job, is that what you mean when you say Forecast Scheduling can be “part of the master scheduling run”?

I am aware that the Forecast Scheduling has always been the link between Forecasts and planning, therefore the next part makes good sense to me - omit to run Forecast Scheduling and output from the previous Forecast Scheduling is considered.

Hi George

In AX2009 you had to run forecast scheduling to populate the forecast for master planning to reference, so they were independent, latest version you can choose to run the forecast as the first step of the master plan so yes that is what I mean basically - now they can be “bundled”, however they can be decoupled and then forecast scheduling run independently.
