Tangible & Intangible Items

Hello Guys,

According to AX 2012, Product / Item Type is Grouped (consider) as Tangible & Intangible Items and hence Microsoft removed BOM type Item and keep only Item & Service Type of Items in AX2012. But this theory is validated or proved only if we follow Item Inventory Policy by selecting and or Clearing Stocked Products field.

Now my Queries are;

  1. What if I created Product Type as “Item” and by selecting and by clearing the Stocked Products field?

  2. What if I created Product Type as “Service” and by selecting and by clearing the Stocked Products field?

  3. If the result or access for Product Type as “Item” & “Service” by clearing by clearing the Stocked Products field, then what is the use 2 Product Types? (We can have single Product Type and by selecting / clearing Stocked Products field we can manage… isn’t it?)

Pl Reply…

One example would be a subcontracted service item that is stocked to allocated the costs to the BOM correctly. There are other examples of requirements but I cannot remember them off the top of my head.
