Steps to set up a BC instance after provisioning

When a customer has a new instance was provisioned and they need to set up the instance access (to give us admin access to setup their instance) how does it work in Business Central. What are the steps? Recentl moved in the BC eco space

Hi @Lemonss

Welcome to BC!

Here’s the thing - admin access happens in Microsoft 365, not in Business Central. So here’s what you need to do:

Step 1: Get the Right Role in Microsoft 365
Ask your admin to assign one of these roles:

  • Global Admin
  • Helpdesk Admin
  • Dynamics 365 Admin
  • Dynamics 365 Business Central Admin (this is the new one, works best)

Step 2: Go to Admin Center
Once you have the role, you can access it:

Step 3: Set Up Your Team
Create groups in Azure and assign permissions. Much easier than adding people one by one.

Quick tip: If you can’t see the Admin Center link, the person just doesn’t have the right role yet. Check Microsoft 365.

If you’re setting up BC for the first time and need help with implementation or after go-live support, feel free to reach out. We work with partners and customers on this stuff.

Good luck!

Hi Hardik,

Thank you!

For step 1, they would like to know where to go to do such a thing and they require assistance. They don’t know how to assign it so I’d love to know where that can be done.

Thank you!

Easy! Go to admin.microsoft.com and:

  1. Users > Active users
  2. Click the person’s name
  3. Click “Manage roles”
  4. Check “Dynamics 365 administrator”
  5. Save

They should see the Admin Center in BC now. If not, have them log out and back in.

Quick tip - if you see “Dynamics 365 Business Central Administrator”, that’s the newer option.

By the way, are you handling the BC setup yourself, or is this for a customer? If you don’t mind telling!

Let me know if it works!

Thank you so much!

Not at all! There are 3 others on the project but being new they gave me the task start from the foundations and I wanted to ask here to confirm against online documentation before I proceed further!

Thank you!

That’s smart - checking docs first is the right move!

Since you’re new to BC and setting up foundations for your team, we’re here if you need help along the way.

If you feel you guys need someone with BC expertise helping you (setup, config, integration, implementation, AI stuff), we can work with you. Just let us know, and we can hop on a quick call.

Good luck with the setup!

Hi,

Hope you give it a try, does it work?
