My client has a mix of workstation operating systems connecting to the same server running Attain 3.60. If they open the DB with the NT workstation client then the main menu is almost instant. If they open it with XP Pro SP2, then the main menu takes anywhere from 30 seconds to 1 minute. Has anyone had similar experiences or know of any issues that might explain this ??? TIA
Strange, are you certain that it is related to the type of OS? Maybe when you test it with a Windows XP SP2 machine, you are the only client connected to the server and it takes longer because the server is filling up its cache? See here: http://www.mbsonline.org/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=9866 http://www.mbsonline.org/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=13154 Try to keep one client connected to the server and then connecting a second client (one on a WinXP SP2 computer) to the database. Is there still a delay?
Hi Nelson, Wish it was that simple… that was the first thing I thought of… it can be at any point in the day[V]
Can you connect directly navision server IP:port?
That’s a good tip! There could be DNS problems in the network.
excuse my ignorance as im not too network technical, but surely if I had a DNS issue then I wouldn’t be able to connect to the host at all ?? Keep the idea coming , all options greatfully tested
Change your windows theme on the XP computers to Windows Classic. This actually improves the performance while displaying data.
XP is MUCH more sensitive to bad DNS setup then w2k and NT4. XP needs correct DNS setup to get correct access to AD which might be the issue here. On Your XP client the only DNS should be You DNS-server on Your LAN. The XP client allways goes to the primary DNS when making request to AD. The DNS Server must in turn be correctly setup to forward these request to the DC if it’s not on the same box.
Hi Guys, thought it would be useful if I posted the resolution to my query as I have now figured out what it was… It ended up being an error in the “Company Notes Path” in the G/L setup. The path that had been assigned in Navision no longer existed on the network and the XP clients seemed to take much longer to figure this out than the old NT4 Workstations. I removed this field entry and voila !!! Back to happy XP clients and Happy customers [^][^][^] All the Best, Dean
