What version are you using? Do you have the latest service pack for that version?

RIM is quite sensitive. Best way to prepare a template is to do the export first then import. Ensure the formatting of the file is consistant.

There is a bug in 5.0 SP1 of data migration toolkit that means date fields will only get imported if you are using the USA date format of MM/DD/YYYY. The fix is quite straightforward but requires a developers license. You should contact your support partner if you are a normal company or Microsoft if you are a support partner to get the latest hot fixes to the data migration tool.
