Hi Andrew,
Yes the data migration tool can be used to update records. I suggest that you do a test database afterwards to make sure that table relations are valid. Try it out in a test enviornment
Hi there Lenny. I moved this thread. Not because you had particularly posted it in the wrong place, but because it was a perfect fit for this forum, of which I am the moderator. Prior to this, my forum had not received a single post. [:(] I hope you don’t mind. [:D]
Dave’s answer is correct the Data Migration Tool does update records as well as inserting new ones.
By default all fields are validated, unless you remove the validation tick on the setup of Migration Fields so you shouldn’t need to worry about fields with invalid relations being updated/inserted.
You should be aware that there are some field types that do not get processed correctly (even in the NAV 2009 release). I had to make a programming change to get Date fields to work. I am still having problems with DateTime fields. I believe there was previously a problem with decimal fields (ignoring decimal components and ignoring minus signs, etc.) Just be sure to check your data carefully after importing. One good way to test this would be to make an import using the DMT in a clean company and then export the data using DMT and compare. The results should be the same.
do you have RIM for NAV 2009?
Hi Stan,
The RIM tool have been change and the standard method is to use the data migration forms. You can still use the RIM tool if you download and import the objects.
