If a credit memo was input with the wrong amount (too much) and applied to an invoice, how can this be reversed/offset? I tried to create a negative Cr memo, but it wouldn’t let me have a negative amount. Am I wrong or is the only way to fix this to create another invoice and have this remain open indefinetely?
Just create a manual entry through the sales journal.
David, could you elaborate a bit please? The basic problem seems that one would like to undo the credit memo (because the amount is incorrect) even though it has already be assigned to the invoice. Then one would create a new credit memo with the correct amount and assign it to the (original) invoice. How can you do this (or part of it) by using the sales journal?
Hi, With the sales journal you can create a debit note with the help of finance charge memo, for the amount (the differece that u have for wrong posting), This will balance your account. It is not possible to reverse the applied amount as far i know [:D] WR Hari
David: I had tried the Sales Journal route, but it still wouldn’t let me post a negative amount with the Cr Memo Hari: I tried the Finance Charge Memo route and it wouldn’t let me assign it to the original invoice. My main objective was to get the amount of the original invoice to be what it needed to be had the Cr Memo been created for the correct amount. Any more suggestions or is this just part of the hole that is inherent with Navisions inability to reverse/unapply transactions?
Because of the structure of our company, we need to create a new invoice to offset the credit memo. I know, a backwards way, but it works…
Hi, Just leave the Document Type blank to indicate that it’s an adjustment. Creating an invoice will skew some standard Navision sales report and flowfield figures. Alex
Another option is to post a copy of the incorrect credit memo as a corrections. The “Correction” field is not visible (by default) on the headers or journals. This nice feature will post a negative debit and a positive credit. Thus, you do not need to use a blank document type and true sales numbers are calculated.
Scott, I’m not sure what you mean. I added the “Correction” field to the Sales Credit Memo header. I then created a Cr Memo, checked the “Correction” field and input a negative amount. It still didn’t like the negative amount. Is there some other place this is done? Thanx! [:)]
You do not have to enter a negative amount. Navision handles this for you. Below is from Navision Help. Hope this helps. Correction Field The Sales Header Table Here you can define the entry as a corrective entry. You can use the field if you need to post a corrective entry to a customer account. If you place a check mark in this field when posting a corrective entry, the program will post a negative debit instead of a credit or a negative credit instead of a debit. The Debit Amount field (or Credit Amount field) on the relevant account will then include both the original entry and the corrective entry, which will have no effect on the debit (or credit) balance. For example, you post a credit sale for USD 500 to Accounts Receivable. This entry is later determined to be incorrect so you make a corrective entry for USD 500 to Accounts Receivable. On the Accounts Receivable and relevant Customer card, the Debit Amount field will include a debit of USD 500 and a negative debit of USD 500. As such, this credit sale and subsequent corrective entry will have no net effect on the amount in the Debit Amount field. On the other hand, if you post the corrective entry as a regular entry, the Debit Amount and Credit Amount fields will both include an amount of USD 500. You can see the amount that has accumulated for the relevant account in the Debit Amount field or Credit Amount field on the relevant G/L or Customer Account card. If you want to use the corrective field, place a check mark in the field.
