P&L stock value is different to balance sheet stock value

We are pretty new to Nav 2009 BE and the subject line has been with us for ages. We think it goes back to the original setup in April 2010. Our partner is next to useless [6], and all those who set our system up have now left the partner. Our auditors are jumping through hoops because we still can’t find the reasons… Any ideas would be appreciated. A.

Hi Andy

There are lots of posts on this and lots of reasons.

First verify the starting point was correct if you can - verify how the opening balances were made as well.

Are you allowing direct posting to the inventory ledger accounts?

Start tracking the differences by month, is it moving, can you track it back, then run it for a day - is it the same etc. To be honest I cannot remember but I am sure the valuation report moves with the dates. If you can find the movement of differences you can look at the transactions and work out what the differences are.

Of course you can only really do this if you are running the ACIE routine and then reconcile afterwards, so you need to take a copy of the live data and do it from a static point.

I am no longer a NAV person and will striggle to tell you the in’s and outs, so others please contribute and tell me where I am wrong, but Andy you can also search for this topic, there are lots of other ideas in other posts.
