I’m getting an odd error in a new production environment. When we try to post output, from the Production Journal, it displays this error:
Location Code must have a value in Item Journal Line: Journal Template Name=PROD. ORDE, Journal Batch Name=xx, Line No.=0. It cannot be zero or empty.
The Prod Order has a location set correctly.
The components are set to backflush, and their locations are set correctly.
Work Centres/Machine Centres all have locations specified, and Location and Bin are both mandatory in those locations.
I take it from the “Line No=0” in the error message that this may indicate there is a setup issue, but on searching for related issues I have not been able to identify what that cause may be.
If someone could please give me a pointer of areas to check, that would be much appreciated.
Hamish - try to post Output in the Production Journal to see if you get the same error message or possibly a slightly different message to help you troubleshoot.

Thanks John,
That’s the error from posting output in the prod journal. I’ve tried the same from the output journal and get the same message (different journal/batch).
The key point seems to be the mention of line=0. I found a couple of references saying that is a setup issue but I haven’t found the source.
Any other ideas please?
Best regards,
Hamish
Hamish - just to confirm location
When add location to the prod order line created when you refresh does it show correctly?
When you add location to the component screen does it show correctly?

Hi John,
Locations are correct on the prod order lines, and on the prod order, and if I check the prod order components, they’re all set with the correct locations too.
Several of these lines have unposted time against them - using Shop Floor Insight - so I can’t refresh the order easily.
Any other setups I should be checking please?
Best regards,
Hamish
Coming back to this topic in case anyone else hits an issue like this. The mention of Line No. = 0 was the key - I couldn’t see anything wrong with the setup, but the output journal batches in this environment had been imported from the build environment - I deleted and recreated them and the issues have resolved. Thanks for your help John
Hamish - I do see more ‘ interesting’ errors than ever and when all looks correct with setups, etc. the next question to ask is if any of the data was imported.
Your issue is a great example of asking that question when the error is not making sense.
Also some errors are caused by well meaning support resources going directly into BC and deleting data - but those examples are for another time🙃
