NF 2.60b & Win 2000 server

We are having a problem with NF 2.60b. The service on our 2000 server is hanging upabout every 3-4 days. We can stop and restart the service and it works fine for another 3 or 4 days. Our server specs: Dual PIII 733, 1gb ram, (4) 18gb 10000rpm Raid 5. This is not a dedicated server. It is also running our exchange and proxy. If anyone has any ideas please let me know…

Hello. I’d suggest moving Navision to a dedicated server as is the recommended configuration. Your current setup is far from idea. I would never recommend installing Navision on the following: PDC, BDC, Exchange, or the Proxy server. Furthermore, Navision recommends Raid 1 not Raid 5.

We have never seen such a problem with W2K and 2.60B - although more of our customers are now running SQL when they buy 2.60B instead of C/SIDE. Never really ever had a problem with the C/SIDE server ever. I would think, if anything, that its your other services that are confusing the issue rather than Navision getting confused by itself. Maybe its being killed off by other other systems. I wouldnt run exchange on a box with other things on it though - it tends to kill machines power for just about anything. Depending on your proxy usage, Navision MIGHT be ok with it. I’d still run them seperately though. 1000000% agreed with the previous posts. Although, if $$$$ are an issue…why not automate a “net stop” command to run nightly that shuts down the service so as to avoid your server hang status? Andre Rencontre BCompSci, MCSE HLB Mann Judd Victoria, Australia

Does it come up with the error message about tcp/ host unconnect? If so you’ll probably find that it’s a network card issue. If the Navision server recieves a bad package, it automatically shuts down to avoid any data corruptions. We had a problem like this and the Idiot techo would not believe that it could be as simple as cheap ethernet cards causing the problem.
