Navision slow for remote accees client

Hi,

This is my first post in this forum…hope someone can help me about my situation below…

We are using Nav in a citrix environment and we using sql 2000.
Our remote access user always complaint that slow when using navision, sometimes need to take around 5-10mins just to type a word.
Sometimes its will prompt " The network connection to your application was interrupted. Try to access your application later, or contact technical support. error message.
But the speed is quite satisfy for local user using Navison.

At first we thought cause by our server can not handle the workload for Navison.
that why we get a new HP server and configure the new server and our old citrix server become load balancing.
Unfortunately, the problem still persist…

First server running SQL and Navison ( Intel Xeon 2.0 with HT X2, 4G of RAM)
Second and third server are install with citrix metaframe… ( Intel Xeon 2.0 with HT X2, 4G of RAM ) (Intel Quad with HT X 2 , 4G of RAM)
We using SDSL 1.5M Download 1.5M Upload.

Can our environment support for 30-40 concurrent users login to our server ?
May i know how to improve the speed for remote access user?

Thank … Your help will be appreciated …

your servers and connection should be fine. What are the speeds that the remote users are connecting at ? I have a standard T1 with just a regular terminal server, not Citrix, supporting 30 users, their speed is comparable to being on site. they connect to the internet with an ADSL line, that is slower than your SDSL line only difference is we are on native database. but that shouldn’t make this difference, If I were trouble shooting this, it would be from the wan side of things, the servers are more then adaquate in my opinion. Review your Citrix setting do other applications have acceptable proformance on the citrix box,. My users all also use outlook and openoffice.org all on the same terminal server.

Most of our remote branches using ADSL 1M download 384kbps upload . According to them, they have no problem to surf internet and download stuff except Login to our Navison system or citrix web interface… User have to login to our citrix gateway server before can access to our Navision server. i’m feedback the problem to our citrix vendor before but they claim that setting for citrix gateway server and citrix metaframe server have not problem… they suspect is our line problem… I’m also no idea what was going wrong…

Have you already made a test to know your real upload / download speed from your citrix server to outside network? For example some routers have setup QoS limiting speed of certain applications.

Tested download speed 1299kbps upload 1265 kbps

Average download 760 kbps

Average upload 978 kbps

We not using any router, as we just using 3com VPN firewall only.

Is it because of our 3com officeConnect VPN firewall cause the bottlenet problem???

Hello Mekmek,

Your situation sounds interesting. We are using AX 3 with SP 5 having 42 concurrant users. Out of 42, 10 users are loging thru remote conn. from our sales offices which are connected by VPN. As I can see your situation, if you are using RSA sequrity, definately the speed will come down. We have a VPN tunnels between firewalls from head office to sales office, so the speen problem is not there. You will amaze to hear that we have only 1 MBPS line at head office and most of the sales offices have 512 Kbps lines. Still those peoples can connect trhu Citrix, at the same time other peoples brows and as our mailing server is also at head office, all our mail transactions takes place on the same line.

I must say, you also check the speed at remote places also.

Regards

Pavan

Remote site don’t have any problem, they can surf net and receive email without any problem…

Tested when connection not in idle time( user login to Navison ) for my server.

Download speed : 3XX-7XX kbps

Upload speed : 6XX-12XX kbps

any help will be appreciated…Thanks

I’m guessing that your problem is related to networking. Do you have spare router to test connection? I have seen a damaged router killing VPN connections periodically and killing connect sessions.

Can you monitor router performance? Citrix has tool to monitor network speed, have you already run it?

Have you tried any network analysis?

Even a simple ping and trace from client to server could show if there are network issues…

Otherwise check with the supplier of the Citrix box that all connection setting are correct.

May i’m know the tool for citrix to monitor network speed ??? I can’t find any network monitor tool from the citrix server…

Log into Citrix from a remote location. Connect to the Head Office. In the Citrix window open Internet Explorer. From here do speed tests.

The issue looks more related to how citrix is tunnelling though your fire wall, so you need to do the testing from citrix, its irrelevant how fast they browse the internet and read email from their normal desktop.

Hope this helps.

you are on the right track, but this will only tell him how fast the connection that the citrix server makes going out to the internet, the only thing going between the citrix machine and the remote client doing the speed test this way is the screen shot of the speed test

, so for example our user connect to our terminal server remotely, when they access the internet through the terminal server, the actual internet connect they use is through our isa server on our network.
