Navision Server uses the same portnumber

Dear Members, I’m trying to install 2 Navision Servers (3.10) on the same server and i can’t seem to able to start both servers at the same time, because both servers (SERVER1 and SERVER2) are connecting through poort 2407. Despite editing the servicesfile (2407/tcp and 2408/tcp but also other numbers) and rebooting. The 1st server is installed through the wizard from the cd, the 2nd manually. I have done numerous installations and never had any problems whatsoever with multiple installations, but on this machine (clean W2003 server) it’s a pain. Is there anybody out there who recognizes this behaviour? Thx. Hans

Have you also edited the HOST file?

Hi Joerg, Forgot to mention this, but indeed I’ve edited the host-file aswell. Hans

You don’t have to edit the host file on the server. There is only need for that on the client. But what’s important is that Your entry in the services file uses the same name as Your server name. (servername=xxxx). There is no difference doing this on w2k3 compared to olders versions.

In fact you do not need to change the hosts file at all. On client side you may simply access the server using the original server name followed by port number. For example “NavisionServer:25000”. same applies to fully qualified server names.

Uninstall the services. Delete Server.zup files. Install the services. This will take you 5 min to perform.

Thanks all for your replies, but I’ve tried everything already from: - uninstalling services - uninstalling Databaseserver from ‘Add/Remove programs’ - clearing the servicesfile - rebooting - editing the servicesfile with new servernames and/or new portnumbers - reinstalling databaseservers - rebooting But still no go. Server won’t connect to others ports. More hints anyone? Thx

Hi Hans, i don’t know why, but have you tried odd numbers for the port number? i.e. : 2407/tcp and 2409/tcp br Josef Metz
