***Navision integration with other applications***

Hi,

I’m new to Navision, we are into an implementation with a client that uses another applications for Production, sales and purchases and NAVision 4 for Finance and HR. Can you pelase tell me what i require to make sure the data is in sync with other systems. The client has diffrent DB boxes for each application. Your help is really appreciated.

Thanks

Binod

As a basic I would suggest that you consider to use Navision for Production, Sales and purchase as well. Otherwise there’s really not much win-win by using Navision. An ERP system is the combination of all the different business areas into ONE SYSTEM.

But to synchronize the date between the different systems requires that you know both your other application AND Navision 100%. You need to define exactly that you want to integrate, find your integration points. When you know this, then you can start thinking about the technical part in doing it. I suggest that you contact a partner both of the other application AND Navision who have tried this or something similar before.

Erik,

Thank you for your quick response, my client has already implemented an Seed business vertical ERP and has NAV too. So they want FIN and HR in NAV and Production, Sales and Purchase in different ERP. So what all links do we need from other ERP to connect to NAV to have the balanced DATA. Correct me if i’m wrong.

Thank you,

Binod

if FM in NAV, and Sales & Purchase is not in NAV. Does NAV maintain : inventory position? receivables? payables? stock adjustment? payment? receipt of payment? customers and customer sub ledger? vendors and vendor sub-ledgers?

To link, is just a technical and practical works, but you need to decide how many details you want to maintain in NAV?

No one will be able to tell you exactly what to link. You’ll have to understand both applications on a functional level, or at the very least understand NAV and lean heavily on the customer for the other ERP.

Surely when you go down a two system implementation, apart from having your head examined, you need to ascertain the integration points prior to implementation?

If they are using NAV purely for finance then you just need the finance information, I say just like it is easy of course, so debtors, creditors, stock, WIP, sales, cost of goods, inventory adjustments, payments, cash receipts, etc etc etc. Every financial transaction conceievably produced by all of teh other systems would need to be integrated. I would suggest you push these out as periodically as finance want them into a journal, then post them in NAV from the journal to allow all of the correct validation to take place.

Now all you need to do is assess all of the financial implications and decide how best to export them. Once done use a dataport to import the data into NAV in a general journal.

Good luck, you will need it [:D]
