Hi, How can I setup Navision to work with OpenOffice Calc and Writer. I tried to modify Type ID Name Modified Version List Date Time BLOB Size Compiled 1 2000000065 Send-To Program No NAVW15.00.01 08-02-14 12:00:00 1192 Yes 1 2000000066 Style Sheet No NAVW15.00.01 08-02-14 12:00:00 1664 Yes Word and Excel application paths (replacing by openoffice programs) but it not works. For example testing import/export to excel budget not works. Best regards MN
Navision will NOT work with OpenOffice instead of Word and Excel without serious modifications.
You must write your own customised routines for export, and I even don’t know is OO “programmably accesible” to that extent.
OO can open Word file, but that means nothing, has it neccessary automation level -if even any ??- check this first.
BTW, Navision works ONLY with MS Outlook as mail client, too. You can’t use anything else instead, say, Lotus Notes.
added: You would not be able almost for sure use OO Calc instead of Excel - Calc is NOT compatible with Excel, when it comes to Pivot Tables. OO is for elementar calculations, if you need serious spreadsheet functionality, forget about OO. There is no free cheese, sorry.
I’m always puzzled by this question. Yes, you can probably get NAV to work with Open Office. But Microsoft is never going to support you doing it or provide you a way to do it if they can avoid it. Open Office is a major direct competitor to Microsoft Office. It would be like them distributing FireFox with Windows.
Microsoft products are designed to work with other Microsoft products and not with non-Microsoft products for a reason.
Hi, thank you for answers. I bought office licences
Best regards

Really? That fast? [;)]
Understand me correctly - I’ve nothing against OO, where it’s applicable - a secretary can easily use it to write simple letters, Calc can perform simple tasks and so on.
Once I showed one OO --and GPL in general-- apologhete a couple of Excel spredsheets I use daily and asked can Calc do the same - it was not able even open them, and these weren’t the most complex ones I’m working with.
Then he agreed, that Calc isn’t the same, but momentarily added, that only small % of users are like me, others can still use OO. Then it was my turn to agree, although we disagreed about percentages.
You still use Navision, not some GPL accounting program, I presume such exists, and that’s normal - but a newspaper-stand owner CAN do his accounting on much simpler program.
Every tool has it’s usage area - you use gimp to draw your wedding invitation, no need to buy full Adobe image-processing / publishing suite for that, but wedding is over, you decide to publish a 100-page digest for your wife and her friends - what software will you choose?
I understand you. First of all we need realizing our business processes. If office is needed to make several operations like exporting, importing or preparing data with navision then we should buy it. Now we have got on terminal server openoffice and office 2007. Once more thanks for answers.
Best regards
