Nav 2009 Installation and Windows XP SP3

I’m trying to (RE) install Nav 2009 into my PC where MS SQL Server 2008 is already installed. Can anyone give me the details of the Installation Process…?

At first I want to install Nav database server or Nav SQL server with the Classic Client and then try with it to ensure is it working or not in PC

MY PC Name is ADEY, IP Address is 192.168.0.158. PC is running on Windows XP SP3 Operating System.

I have attached some screen shots where I have to put some parameters but I can’t understand what parameters I have to define….

Kindly help…

First Screen shot

hi, the nav server is the middle tier server of the 3-tier architecture.

the database server is the classic database server of the 2-tier architecture.

Which problem do you have if you try to install?

About your installation question:

  1. If the sql server already exist, install

-RT client

-nav server

-classic client

  1. start the classic client

  2. File database - new to create new database

  3. Restore the default backup which is included on the product cd

If you have further questions let me know!

Rgds,

Rene

Hi Rega,

In my PC I can get the Demo Database NAV (6-0) through the SQL Server Option ( Server name : TestServer, Windows Authentication ).

But the other client can not find the Server name TestServer.

And I want to log in into my DB with Database server Authentication, how can I do ??

DB authentication is not supported by the RT client. you have to use Windows login.

The server you have to specify in the RT client is not the SQL Server name.

You have to use the nav serve/instance name:

→ example localhost/DynamicsNAV

Take a look into your services (control panel) whats the name of your instance.

Usually in a demo environment (and on the local machine) it is localhost/DynamicsNAV

Anyway take a look into your services if the Microsoft Dynamics NAV server is started

Cheers,

Rene

I want to repeat my question againg…

Hi Rega,

In my PC I can get the Demo Database NAV (6-0) through the SQL Server Option ( Server name : TestServer, Windows Authentication ).

But the other client can not find the Server name TestServer.

And I want to log in into my DB with Database server Authentication, how can I do ??

How Can I coneect the same db via Database server Authentication ??

In Nav 5.0 Installation, I have to select the database and license file. But In Nav 2009 where I have to select/specify these two ?? I don’t want RTC now. I just want to connect my DB via Database Server Option.

kindly help…

hi, first of all sorry for misunderstanding. But i am not quite sure if understand you correctly now…

You want to use NAV 2009, classic client? One workstation is working an can connect? The other workstation isn’t? Correct?

If another client cannot find the server try to ping the server ip address - is this possible?

Did you choose the right network type ? (tcp/tcps/…)

.

Is this whats your troubles in connection?

About your question to choose the authentication method: (Be sure you have entered database user in NAV )

Select database / open (is still the same) position for open a database / connect to a server and choose authentication method

Tools / license information (is still the same) to choose license

If you use SQL Server be sure that the user(s) are existing on the SQL Server too.

Please give me more details if this answer wasn’t helpful

Hi All,

Now I’m trying to install nav 2009 Demo version in my pc ( Windows xp sp3 ) where Configuration Tools of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 is pre-installed. After Installation complete it gives me an error message. …

After Complete Installation nav 2009 how can I connect my Demo Database Nav (6-0) via MS Dynamic Nav 2009 Classic with Microsoft SQL server ??

When I try to connect vai RTC it gives me an error message Ther user ID and password is invalid. Try again .

Plz help to solve these issues.

After complete demo installation of Nav 2009, now I’m trying to open the demo db using SQL Classic client.

It gives me an error message when I’m trying to the db via Database Server Authentication. The error message is……

The user ID and password is invalid.try again.

It opens the demo db when trying to via Windows Authentication.

Can you tell me how can I open the db via Database Server Authentication??

The difference between server and database server is that server refers to Microsoft Outlook where as Database Server is the usual “propriatory” database server of NAV.

No that is most definately not true
