I know its really very bad question to ask here but i tried to search out on net but didnt found anything regarding this.
Basically i am from Engineering background. I do not have any knowledge about ERP system and i have to be ready for it in a month. My main question is i got an idea about about installation part of NAV , C/Al and objects regarding things. But i do not have any idea about functionality of NAV. I mean there are 9 departements finance sales and so on. But i do not know how they are integrate with each other? I mean if i am going to do purchase order than what will be its effect on Inventory or warehouse or if i am adding Items than what will be its effect on other departments. Can somebody explain me basic fundamental of ERP process? How ERP works? Or some good links or Documents for this?
Alok,
there must be some miss understanding.
Talk to the partner that is doing the implementation and get in one of the training classes that they would have organized for your company.
What is your role in the company, and what will you be doing with Navision?
Hi David…
Thanks a lot for your reply… I am a software developer. Currently i am just going through NAV’s ebooks. It has been a month form where i have started to work on it…
Alok, that question is more than can be answered in a forum setting. Getting up to speed on NAV with no background in any of the ERP areas will be tough but it can be done. I started in the Avista Financials, the DOS version, with only a couple years programming experience with LISP. Scour the web for material on both ERP systems and NAV. Are you working for a company that uses NAV to run their business or for a VAR that sells/customizes NAV?

Please don’t go there. I am giving him the benefit of the doubt and assuming that he is an end user that their partner “forgot” to train. If this is the partner, then really there is no hope for this client to go live.
Yes. I read thru some of his previous posts and I was thinking he could be in the same situation as poor Enock: http://dynamicsuser.net/forums/t/33710.aspx
In that case Alok, have your bosses start reading thru this forum. The great pain of this “jump in head first/sink or swim” approach to learning to develop in NAV is nothing I’d wish on even my enemies. Back when the Navision HQ was in Atlanta for the US (before the evil Microsoft empire [:)]) they held free training classes for Navision there. Every class I went to (which I didn’t take my first class, developer, till I’d been working with and developing in Navision for almost 2 years) ended with some man in tears because his company sent him up there with NO experience in the concepts covered by the class and his continued employment was hinged on taking the week long class and passing the exam at the end so the company could have that compentency. Just poor management and planning.
Back in those days, partners also had to pay Navision a percentage of their service revenue. Those classes were not exactly ‘free’.
Hello Experts…
Thanks a lot for ur replies. I know its very difficult but still i have to learn it any how because its challenge for me and i always like to face it. I found that its very easy to learn NAV(regarding application implement) but i am facing problem because i do not have a proper knowledge about ERP system (it’s functionality). So if you guys can provide me some good document or links regarding how ERP works and related there so its really helpful to me.
Thanks
Alok Shah
