Anyone try to run master scheduling using finite capacity? Currently my customer plan their production using excel. Their planning is very flexible. All the machine capacity are fully utilize.
Now, when we plan using Ax with finite capacity, there are some capacity NOT fully utilize. My customer plan based on sales forecast.
Anyone have any suggestion to overcome this issue?
Can we do something on the forecast qty so that work center capacity is fully loaded.
You would need to find out why there are gaps. However experience and advice from MS is that finite should ONLY be setup for a resource bottle neck. Basically it coauses planning results that are frankly wierd, gaps in routings etc, but you have not really told us any related settings or why there are gaps, but the rule of thumb is not to use finite planning. Hopefully AX2012 will finally resolve this.
You should understand how scheduling is done, the objective of MRP is to fulfill the requirement date, not to optimize capacity usage, so you will always have gaps.
This is my first time implement the capacity planning. My customer expect that we can use the finite capacity setting, then Ax will plan everything for them. Is there any document showing that we are NOT recomend to use finite planning in AX.
Now, after i run master scheduling with finite planning. The result show in the “Capacity reservation” screen (Basic> Inquiries> Work centres) having gap by work center. Meaning, the capacity is not fully use. It might be idle for few hour per day OR it might have gap between 2 or 3 day.
Based on your experience, how should we implement the capacity planning. Kindly advice.
if capacity planning functionality is available then it means that you can use it, there is no point of implementing functionality that it is not recommended to use.
as adam told you, use finite capacity for bottleneck resources and, one more time, mrp in dax won’t optimize capacity usage you will always have gaps.
