hi all, How do you do a month end closing in Navision? Are there any specific reports to print out or procedure to follow? I have found that even when you close the month you can post in that period. how come? thanks in advance
A month en in Navision includes calculation of interest, printout statements, balances etc - depends on the various company policies But to prevent posting in “closed” periods you have to 1. state something in the fields “Allow Posting From” and “Allow Posting To” in “General Ledger”/Setup/“General Ledger Setup” 2. and/or state something in the fields “Allow Posting From” and “Allow Posting To” in “General Ledger”/Setup/Users/“User Setup”
As stated control of periods is by posting dates. 1 is the basic control but 2 is an override useful for accountants who still need to post any closing journals. You can still post to a closed period as it may be needed for any audit adjustmenst etc which come though some time later. For the month end make sure you have posted the inventory periodic activities, Adjust cost… and Post Inventory… Most other month end routines are standard accounting and can be ‘back’ reported (not time sensitive)
Moved from user group forum to Navision End User Questions forum.
If you do not run Adjust Cost / Post Cost daily, I would deffenetly do that as part of your Month End Processing. The sames goes for Adjust Currency Exchange Rates, so you get your unrealized gain/loss posted. Other than that, Navision posts pretty much real time, so you do not need to process a lot of processes, like you have the need in other software packages - ie. SAP
And by the way - I would use the Allow Posting From / To in the general Ledger to ‘Lock’ the posting. In the User Setup table you have the same fields - This means, you have the opiton to have your controller have access to still post in the prior month, if he/she neess to. In other words : The dates on the User Setup overrules the dates on the General Ledger Setup for the user.
