The data extraction tool seems to export more data than what is actually imported into BC. Such as invoices, bills, credit memos, etc. Unless we are missing something.
The data extraction tool doesn’t export any open transactions (SO, PO, etc.)?
The data import tool in Business Central doesn’t allow us to map any additional fields?
It also seems to be missing some basic mapping like Payment Terms for Customers.
Seems like the Item import is invalid as Business Central assigns standard Item Numbers instead of using the Item Numbers from QuickBooks.
We’ve run into the same issues before. The built-in QuickBooks migration tool is fine for very basic data, but it doesn’t handle open documents, custom fields, item numbers, or even some simple mappings like payment terms. So it often exports more than BC can actually import.
What usually works best is a mixed approach:
• use the tool for core master data,
• then bring in the missing pieces (open SO/PO, correct item numbers, extra fields, terms, etc.) through configuration packages or a small custom import.
BC supports this, and with proper mapping, the data lines up correctly.
We’ve done this for one of our customers recently, and the migration matched QuickBooks perfectly after the manual mapping step.
If you’d like, we can hop on a short knowledge-sharing call and look at your specific data to suggest the cleanest path.
Thanks for the update! Good to know it’s no longer needed. If anything comes up later, feel free to reach out. We can also support with offshore/onshore resources starting from $30/hr, working in your preferred time zone, for any integration, migration, or customization needs on Microsoft Dynamics 365 solutions.
I have done 3 4 QB to BC Migration. That tool is awesome but don’t get all dependent on it. Masters on a certain degree it will care but don’t do the balances. I took care of all the Masters and the balances manually. Just validated some data with the tool and then manually did the Master and the Balances migration. Same way I did the GP to BC Migration.
