We’ve got an old installation of Navision 3.60 on a test laptop. We’d uninstalled and re-installed this copy of the software. We’re unable to get into the database - as it keeps asking for a password. Is there a standard username / password that will get us in ? (For instance like the ‘sa’ profile in SQL Server). Any clues ? Thanks in advance Steve
Navision can generate a new password as a last resort, but I’m sure they will charge for that. The password is stored in the database, so reinstalling the client won’t help (I guess you figured out that). Do you still have a backup which you can re-restore?
If you have a backup, you can make an new database and reinstall the backup, before your exits from the installed backup, you can make new user and password. otherwise you have to contack your NSC, they will send you a form and your are returning this form to Microsoft Business Solution. MBS will contack you directly and unlock the database for a minor fee (In dk i think it is 675 EUR).
Is the username / password stored in one of the Navision tables that we can look at ? I’m talking about the standard username logon rather than anything more tight. Steve
There is no standard username - You must have made it
Is it a Native or SQL database? If it’s a SQL database is it possible… (Req. you got full access to the db)
It’s the native database - surely there’s a way in to read from the table ? As would be the case with the SQL Server version I’m guessing would have been suggested. Steve
Hi Steven The database is protected by the security settings. The user who created it will have set up their own security. However when doing this you HAVE to set up a SUPER user and it is common to set this user up as SUPER - so you might want to try this with the passwords blank or super.

You could also of course try the username of the person who originally created the database, or their initials. Failing this if it is a customer database - you could always ask them!
hi Restore the back up if you have then dig in the to security userid and password and assign new ones or change the passwords.
