Where is a good place to locate a sample format the IRS requires for electronic 1099 submissions for 2024?
There are many affordable efiling services that read in data from Excel - for example tax1099.xlsx - that I have never tried to create the layout per the IRS’ requirements. I assume you are referring to the IRIS system. Here is the link that has lots of information from applying to uploading: E-file information returns with IRIS | Internal Revenue Service
Thanks! My goal is to create a SQL view with the needed data. It does appear to be fixed field vs csv though. I’ll see what we can do. Thanks!
Hi @Daniel_Specht ,
If that helps, Terry Heley from Microsoft has published a SQL view on the Microsoft Support Blog page that extracts the 1099 data for a SmartList or SSRS report. That data could be pasted into an Excel file and saved as a CSV text file to be uploaded to the IRIS system.
Though I guess you’d have to tweak some of the columns, as I’m not sure if all of them are required.
The SQL View provides a 1099 Summary for the past year (filter in the view itself, or you can just create the view without filter and then apply a filter during extraction).
