I am Jens Møller-Pedersen, working for Microsoft at the MDCC in Vedbæk. I am a Dev Lead on the Dynamics Nav “6.0” client.
I like following the discussions on the community forums, but so far I haven’t been posting any replies. The main reason for this is that I am not that familiar with the Nav application yet, coming from an Ax / MBF background. However, if you have questions about the new client I might be able to help you out.
Thank you for your introduction and welcome to the user group. We happy to see you here and are looking forward to your input. I have added the Microsoft Employee role to your profile, so it’s easy to see that you come from Microsoft (according to our agreement with Ilana.
How can you be a development lead on the Navision 6.0 if you’re not familiar with Navision? Is MSFT intentionally doing this so they can have someone to “think outside of the box”?
I guess the reason is that I’m mainly dealing with the technical implementation of showing pages etc. to the user - and not so much about what is written in A/L code. So it is probably more fair to say that I am not that familiar with the Nav application. So I do not know about the details on item costing etc.- but I know how the client interacts with A/L triggers etc. But of course I know about the scenarios we are trying to solve in the Nav client. And it should also be noted that the term dev lead just means that I have a development team. I am not the only dev lead - there is definitely a dev lead knowing the application details that I am not familiar with.
Another reason why I don’t need deep knowledge of the application is that the client is designed to allow it to run on different backends - so Nav is hopefully only the first use of the client code.
Regarding MSFT intentionally moving people around - I don’t really know. I just find it interesting working with Nav having been part of the Ax kernel group earlier - and yes, I do think it is an advantage to bring in people with differing backgrounds.
