Hi, i would like to install Axapta 2.5, 3.0sp1 and 3.0sp2 in my notebook. Any idea on how to do this? Previously i’ve tried to duplicate the Application folder and the client folder and install 3.0SP3 onto the original folders but ended up both 3.0SP1 and 3.0SP2 cannot be run. Kindly advice me on this. Thanks.
Hi, It is possible to install different versions of Axapta in one single system. One way to achieve this is to rename application/client folders of one version (ex Axapta 2.5) before installing the next version (ex Axapta 3.0). This way, you can convince Installation wizard that this is a fresh installation. Once you install the second version, rename back the earlier version. Please note that you duplicate application folders when you want to have multiple installations of same version - for ex. 2 different versions of Axapta 3.0 SP1 - one each for Development and Production. Hope this helps. Regards, Harish Mohanbabu
Hi Ken, If you need multiple installs of the same version i.e. 3.0 SP1, 3.0 SP2, 3.0 SP3 then I find using a virtual machine is the easiest way to ensure each installation is kept seperate. I use Microsoft Virtual PC to maintain 5 different vesrions of Axapta. BTW I have no affilliation with Microsoft so don’t take this as a sales pitch http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/virtualpc Cheers,
Hi, I have Axapta SP 2 and SP3 running on my laptop. I made a copy of my original environment running SP2 AND created an environment for the SP3. I also made a copy of the database, renamed it to be used by the SP3. The original directory structure for SP2 was axapta\application \client \server The structure for SP3 axaptasp3\application Then I applied the Service Pack on the original directory structure. Needless to say that I first made a backup of the original directory structure, and of course the database to be able to go back when this would have gone wrong. The reasons why you need only to copy the application directory - at least that is what I learned - are: - the client needs an updated version of the text file axsysen-us.ktd (revision 583 or higher is needed) - there can only be one server running on your laptop (look at Axapta Object Server properties under the services of Administrative Tools) When I started the old environment I had to recompile the application. If I look into Help, About Microsoft Business Solutions Axapta, I can see that I am running SP2. In the new environment I can see that I am running SP3. Hope this helps you out in establishing the same on your laptop. Kind regards, Danny Gaethofs
Hi, i don’t think that the Virtual PC is a good choice for my laptop as it’s only running on a P4 1.3Ghz processor with 256Mb RAM. I’ve tried to install the Axapta 3.0 SP1 and SP2 in 2 different folders. But i do have a question on the AOS. At any one time only 1 AOS should be running right? So if i’ve upgraded it to SP2 or SP3, will the new AOS affect the SP1?
