My client is using Navision MY 4.0SP3 and they want to add a new company for India in their current database. Can Navision MY 4.0SP3 handle India taxes or they need to purchase the Navision 4.0SP3 with India Localization?
If Navision MY 4.0SP3 can handle India taxes, how to setup the taxes in order to print the tax documents?
I’m sorry to tell you that NAV MY 4.0 SP3 cannot handle Indian taxes.
But on the other hand I will surely NOT RECOMMEND you to try to integrate the India tax localizations! We did that in my company and must say we have regretted doing that ever since! If you check on Partnersource then you’ll see that not a single week goes by without at least one hotfix for these localizations. I can tell you that these localizations are not done very good. It’s like every time the Indian government make small adjustments, then Microsoft India must change their code or add new fields!
For our upgrade to NAV 5.0 we have decided to remove this and a few other (ex. the Asian withholding tax module) localizations from our global core. Instead we have created new global vat, withholding tax and sales tax module, heavily inspired by the US sales tax module. With this localization we will be able to support withholding tax both in India, Mexico, Thailand, Italy, as well as the other Tax requirements in India, without any special programming.
We have done this in NAV 5.0, but it should be just as easy to do for you in NAV 4.0. It took our consultants and developers about 250 hour to do this programming (and more for analysing and documenting it).
Do you know of any good third party tax software that will calculate the Indian taxes. I personally so dissapointed int he Indian localization, I am looking at the option of just using the W1 version there instead, and doing all the taxes out side. So I was looking at integrating. Of course your solution makes better sense, but not sure about maintaining it.
