Hardware for Navision attain

I have to change the old Navision Server. The new server has 5 disks. 2 x 36,4 Raid 1 for Windows 2003 and 3 x 72,8 Raid 5 for Navision attain 3.6 database. Is it recommended to install the navision database on raid 5 with 3 dynamic hard disks?

It is recommended to NOT use RAID 5. Don’t ask me for tech details, but it’s said that RAID 5 is not the right RAID system for database intensive applications. There have been cases where the Navision database corruption was traced back to RAID 5. This is very rare, but it has happened. The recommended RAID for Navision database server is 1+0.

Daniel is correct. Raid 5 writes all data twice. If you use SQL (?) make sure you place the data and log files on different volumes.

here’s an old tech doc - that might explain in a bit more detail http://www.geocities.com/navision_attain/downloads/NavSuggHardware.doc
