We have a client in the GCC environment who needs to set up a test environment of BC - -has anyone had any experience with this? We were told that it wasn’t possible, but there has to be a way, right? let me know if anyone has any ideas. thank you so much!
What does GCC stand for?
basically - they are restricted - -govt and have issues w/ what they host
Sorry, I guess I should have read the title more closely. You already said Govt Comm Cloud.
Unfortunately, I’ve never worked with the government sector before so I can’t provide you any insight. Hopefully someone else can.
You will need to have an on-premise version of BC.
If it is Commercial GCC, no issue.
If it is a GCC High environment, no BC available. Hopefully Microsoft will allow this in the future, but currently not available.
The rules and security requirements in GCC are strict but it can be done. GCC-High is a special version of Microsoft’s cloud for U.S. government agencies. It has tougher security rules. If you have a GCC-High tenant, you might be able to create a trial environment for BC. But there are some rules. Unlike regular Azure setups, a trial BC environment can’t be made directly in GCC-High.
You might need to create the trial environment in a different region first, maybe using a Partner’s tenant. Then, you can move it to meet GCC rules. Remember, accessing certain services in GCC-High can be limited due to strict compliance needs.
Another option is Microsoft’s Customer Digital Experiences demo environment. This is for Microsoft partners and is good for demos and testing. However, GCC-High tenants may have some limits on using these demo environments.
If cloud testing isn’t possible because of security rules, another option is to install BC on-premises. This can be done using a DVD image or other methods. It allows for testing in a completely isolated space but needs local resources and might not have all cloud features.
So, here are my tips:
-
Reach out to Business Central consultants https://www.hiredynamicsdevelopers.com/hire-microsoft-dynamics-business-central-consultants/. They have the know-how and can help with setting up a test environment in a GCC-High tenant.

They might suggest a workaround, like setting up the test environment in a different region or using Docker for local testing.
