generate batch number while inventory transaction

Hi All,

I have problem with generate batch number automatically while registration of inventory transaction journal (transfer, movement, Bill of material).

Any suggestion to solve this problem?

Hello Aris, you should be more specific, what is the problem you have? is there any error message? The transfer journal will not generate a batch number, it will just use batch already created.

Basic configuration to have in mind is that the item you want to generate batch numbers on transactions should have:

  1. Dimension group, a Tracking dimension group with batch control
  2. Manage stock, Tracking, Batch number group assigned and in its configuration should select Only for stock transactions and On physical update. And in Activation, select Purchase, Stock and Production

You can review this in Product release of the Product information management module.

Hi Hector,

Thanks for your reply, my problem is I want to mixing a liquid chemical from some tank’s to one tank. So, I use transfer journal to solve this, but the mixing item should has new batch number with new batch attribute.

So I would need to modify the system when registration transfer journal can generate new batch number.

Maybe you have another suggestion to solve it? I appreciate for your help,

Regards,

I recommend you to use the Bills of material journal, it will consume the chemicals you have in the first tanks, and produce the mix in the last tank, when at the same time generates the new batch number.

But for this you need to create a Bill of materials for the produced item, whit estimated quantities to be mixed of the other chemicals and you need to place the production accounting accounts so AX can post transactions done.

I have a doubt… if you move (transfer) Chem1 and Chem2 from Tank1 to Tank2 as you mention, in Tank2 you are still going to have Chem1 and Chem2, but you are not going to have Chem3 which is the mix of Chem1 and Chem2…

Did I understand you well??

If it is the same product (Chem1), but just moved from one tank to other, and you want to generate in the other tank a new batch number, just select a manual batch number creation method. Then don’t use a transfer journal, but movement journal, and the steps would be, as an example:

  1. Consume -1000 lts of Chem1, batch 999RM in Tank1
  2. Enter +1000 lts of Chem1, with right click create the new batch in the batch dimension 999FP, assign it, select Tank2 and post the journal

I’m giving you this examples considering per the model you first described, that production module is not implemented, the bill of materials journal is the simplest production module you can use

Hi Hector,

My problem is mixing a same product (Chem1) which each batch number of a item has different batch attribute.

According to your suggestion. I prefer to use bill of materials journal to solve this problem. But, should the production type of this product is BOM? Because I use Production type Formula for this product, I need batch order rework to solve some case other.

Thank you for your help, I appreciate it.

Hi Aris, I was testing in my system, and only BOM items are shown when doing the report as finished step in the Bill of material journal.

You say that in some cases you need batch order rework, so you are using the production module, aren’t you? Why don’t you use the production module instead the BOM journal?

The production module works the same way, when you report as finished the order it will automatically create a new batch number according the batch group assigned to the item, and you can give batch attributes to this new batch.

Hi Hector, you right, I can use batch order rework to solve this. But, in case transfer chemical to another tank covered by warehouse people, not production floor. And if use batch order rework need more step than I use BOM journals for case transfer chemical.

I was testing in my system that formula item can use BOM journals by create line manually not doing report as finished step in Bill of materials journals. it will generate new batch number when registration and I can give batch attribute to this new batch.

Thank you for your suggestion hector, I really appreciate it.

Regards,

Congratulations Aris! Best regards!

Dear Hector,

May I ask you a question.

I got a problem with the Batch number in Inventory transfer Journal.

Dimension group setup is active for Batch Number, primary Stocking and Physical inventory.

Allow entry in all accept Quality order.

When I use Transfer Journal to move stock from a warehouse A to warehouse B for 100 product PROD01 with batch number BATCH01

However, when I check the stock after transfer I found out that in WH A only reduce 50 for BATCH01 and 50 for BATCH 02. (the same with WH B increase 50 BATCH02 and 50 BATCH 02)

I do not understand why the system do not get the exactly BATCH NUMBER to transfer.

This makes me confused.

Could you explain or point out where I’m wrong.

I’m looking forward to hearing from you.

Thank you,

Anh Mai
