Few general querries in Navision

  1. Why we do indentation in chart of accounts ?

  2. What is the difference between single dimension and multiple dimenstion( IN COA-----Account----Dimensions) ?

  3. What is the difference between Global Dimension and shortcut dimension ( Other than, that Global dimensions are generally static in nature, and Shortcut dimension can be changed regularly as per our need)

For Q1. I suppose we indent to enhance readability. As in to be able to rule out what is under what heading. Just as having bolded headings.

Rgds.

  1. It is indented for ease of view, also helps with the adding of the formulas, if you mean the process itself, if you construct it with begin and end totals and then indent it will enter the formulas for you.

  2. It is adds a level of analysis, a single one could be a department or a cost centre, whilst multiple can be mixed. With the option you are looking at if you select a range of accounts and select the option it will list the dimensions against the records.

  3. The two global dimensions appear as standard on most tables (as do shortcut 1 and 2) they refer back to the hard coded department and project fields. The other shortcuts allow additional layers of analysis and can be added where appropriate.

Dear adamRou,

Can you explain in simple words the IInd point ( Single/global dimensions) ? I couldn’t understand it properly

Go to the chart of accounts
Select more than one GL account with dimensions
Select the single option, the dimensions will be listed.

Now select several GL accounts without dimensions
Select the multiple option
Define a dimension
This dimension is now against all the accounts.

one of the main advantages of global dim 1 and 2 is that they exist in all “entry” table, so u can direclty filter on the dim values, while to see entries related to dim 3-8 you have to go to analysis per dim
