I would like to change the item Reservation method from Expiry date to Best before date. In the Inventory Model Group form > Setup (tab) > Reservation (group) > The Pick criteria should be Best before and FEFO controlled. Until now, this parameter has been set to FEFO controlled and Expiry date.
My question is: Does this parameter change cause any changes in other modules/work flows other than MRP and in the Sales orders?
For example, to inventory transactions or purchase orders?
Thank you for your help!
/Helena
Hi Helena,
If the on-hand item is zero and the Reserve ordered items parameter is selected on the General tab of the Inventory management > Setup > Parameters form, then reservations is made against quantities of items for which purchase orders have the status Ordered.
In the situation where there are two or more receipts with different delivery dates with the status Ordered which the sales order can be reserved against, the two parameters, Date-controlled and Backward from ship date determine which receipt is reserved against.
Date-controlled: Reservation occurs according to the FIFO principle. This means that the complete sales order line quantity or
quantity that is unavailable as on-hand is reserved against the oldest purchase order with the status Ordered with the delivery date falling before the delivery date of the sales order line.
Backward from ship date: Reservations are processed according to the LIFO principle, that is, the receipt with the most recent date is reserved.
This parameters only determine the delivery dates and not the other modules.
