Exporting Concorde XAL data files into MS access

We are changing from Nav XAL to Nav 2009 but only bringing over live open files. However we want to use all our 16 years of XAL historical data and wish to import this into MS Access data bases. We have an MS Access expert working on this but re can’t get the data to transferd using the ODBC drivers.

Can anybody help or point us in the right direction? We really want to use all the historical data by using Access databases and not have to keep XAL alive and running so we can check past records of orders etc…

Thanks Andy.

IMHO this will bring MS Access to it’s knees - haven’t used Access for a long time, but some 5 years ago a .MDB file exceeding 100Mb or even smaller was unusable - not poor performance, there wasn’t any performance at all. Maybe this has changed with never versions - I recall MS promised to use the SQL server engine in Access, too.

We can use SQL but how do we we get it out of the XAL format so it can be used. Access is much more powerfull than it used to be. Any other ideas how we can usefully gain access and use all our historical Navison XAL data>

Thanks Andy

Andy,

Lets first get it with the terminology

XAL = Concorde XAL = Axapta = Dynamics AX now…

Navision Financials = Navision Attain = some elder names = Dynamics NAV now…

Then is it some earlier Navision version OR Axapta - as such thing as Navision XAL doesn’t exist?

Ah… Sorry. Concorde XAL was… Danish when MS purchased them from memory.

We have used this for about 16 years and I’d dearly love to use all the historical data but not keep Concorde XAL alive to do so.

This is why I want to have the Concored XAL data imported into MS Access or some other date base so that we can all use for

checking past orders etc…

Andy

Got it.

Then I’ll simply move this post to corresponding Axapta forum (and update the subject) where Axapta issues are discussed…
