Does anyone use Business Central for the poultry industry (Specifically Eggs)?

We are currently using spreadsheets and quickbooks to manage our company. We have 4 Business entities that make up the whole company. We have Live(the farms that house the chickens), Feed (Feed mill), Logistics (our own trucking) and an egg grading plant. The company as been growing rapidly over the last 4 years and we are in desparate need of a better system. I have found a couple of companies that appear to have addressed our industry.

Ovo Vision and Inecta.

I come from a F&O background but feel it is probably more than we need. Does anyone have experience with our industry on BC or worked with Ovo or Inecta? Thank you.

Hi Brad,

I have an extensive background in food manufacturing, not necessarily chickens. But agree, F&O could be overkill (no pun intended.) Feel free to reach out and I would happy to address any questions you may have on it.

Hi Brad,

I worked with an egg company that uses NAV 2016 with plans to upgrade to BC in the near future.
Please reach out to me if you want more information.

Hey there Brad - Welcome to the community. Overall, you will find a large group that is in the Food manufacturing and distribution industry that have been part of the NAV / Business Central community for years. They have a strong presence. I’ve worked with a number of egg manufacturer and distributers and all have moved from NAV to BC, and it works well for them.

OvO has been the primary ISV we’ve offered to our customers moving away from another food vertical onto BC. They seem to have most of the functionality that is required in the egg industry. Please feel free to reach out if there are any questions. This is an amazing community and I am sure you will find no problem finding the answers to all of your questions.

Gino, Thanks for the information. I will reach out soon. Thanks, Brad

Hi Brad,

That’s a great question. We often see companies moving from QuickBooks/spreadsheets to ERP face this. With multiple entities like Live, Feed, Logistics, and grading, it’s important to keep things connected without going too heavy.

From what we’ve seen, F&O can be more than needed unless operations are very large. Business Central usually fits well for poultry and agri businesses since it handles multi-entity setups, finance, supply chain, and production in one system.

We worked with a poultry customer in the Netherlands with a setup much like yours. Using BC, we helped them:

  • Manage feed production & distribution

  • Track costs/margins across entities

  • Automate reporting instead of spreadsheets

  • Scale smoothly without moving to F&O

Ovo Vision and Inecta do provide industry solutions, but BC with the right customization often covers the same ground in a leaner way. If you’d like, I can share the case study of how we supported them.

You can also reach me at hardik.gupta@allgrowtech.com if you’d like to go deeper into your scenario.

Hi Brad,

I was just joking yesterday that I have spoken to so many people with Business Central experience that have worked at egg companies. I’ve got some connections if you still need a Business Central consultant to help you out.
Feel free to shoot me an email: b.zuspan@nigelfrank.com

As a follow up. We did end up with Ovo-Vision and have started our implementation. We checked into multiple options and just couldn’t find another option, inside or out of Dynamics, that ticked the boxes we were looking for. We are excited to get things rolled out.

Hi @Brad_Carpenter1

Good to hear that you finally moved on. So, how are things going after the implementation with Ovo-Vision? Any progress in terms of success or going in the process!
