Documentation for Set up and Learnings NAV 2009 R2

Haven’t used the software in about 10 years, so looking to get back into it and have some learnings and set up to review and was hoping there is still documentation I can access for NAV 2009 R2. Is anyone aware of this.

Hi @dmorris

NAV 2009 R2 docs are still available on Microsoft Learn Archive and PartnerSource Portal, but after 10 years, that’s a lot to refresh from memory, not a quick jog back.

Before you dive in, what’s your scenario?

  • Supporting an existing customer on NAV 2009 R2? Grab the archived docs, you’ll be fine.
  • Migrating them to Business Central or D365? That’s where the real value is. Migration paths are pretty straightforward now (3-6 months to BC, 6-12 months to D365 F&O).
  • Just learning? Honestly, BC is the better investment, it’s NAV’s modern successor and supported through 2027.

Most customers we see on NAV 2009 R2 actually want to upgrade. They’re just unsure about the effort or path.

If you need help refreshing your knowledge or scoping out a migration, let me know. Happy to point you in the right direction.

What’s your situation?

Hi @dmorris

Scenario (Migration - Most Common): Don’t just learn NAV 2009 R2; learn the migration path. This is where the real value is.

Thank you Hardik, this is very helpful. I have just joined a new company and they are using this version. There are a few set up pieces with Item and Sales pricing and discounts that needs to be fixed/completed along with Account Schedule cleanup/setup and budget loading, so looking for documentation to refresh my memory. It is coming back to me quickly, but just need some refreshers.

Thanks again,

Diane

Hi Diane,

Perfect. Item setup, pricing/discounts, account schedules, and budgets are all foundational and should come back quickly.

Microsoft Learn Archive has good docs on these modules. One tip: NAV’s pricing hierarchy (item-level vs. customer-level vs. quantity breaks) can be tricky; if you hit any edge cases, just let me know.

Good luck with the new role. Feel free to reach out if you need anything; we have expertise in this.
