Do you think RTC provides VALUE?

What do you think about RTC? Does it provide real value or just part of Microsoft Marketing strategy? What do you think about discontinuing standard forms? Does it worth for ISV to rewrite everything in RTC?

I do not see real value that RTC provides to average Navision Client. I kind of understand why they are doing this – this is the first step to move to the “cloud” model… But what is the RUSH – why cancel standard forms now

RTC creates some OVERHEAD:

  • All forms has to be redeveloped or transformed

  • Some limitation – lost functionality

  • Additional server to buy and maintain

  • Train programmers

  • Rethink & Redevelop user interface

All this takes time and money. Does it worth it???

You can still use Forms through NAV 2009. Only in NAV 7 will Forms be discontinued.

As for the rush, what do you mean? They’ve been talking about how Forms are going to go away for years now. And you still have 18 months or so before the next version comes out.

Having a consistent interface across all of your ERP products and moving towards .NET will hopefully allow Microsoft to make improvement to all products simultaneously.

Whether or not the overhead is worth it is irrelevant. If you want to get new customers you have to support it.

Just take this chance to create new opportunities. [H]

I understand why it is good for Microsoft and how they can benefit form this… And i understand that we have to support it… But this is not a question… the question is “Do you believe it provides VALUE or Microsoft just drop ther cost on us?” Will customer and partner benefit from this?

All of the usability studies say that new users are faster and more efficient in what they do. It has the ability to integrate more tightly with other business applications. I don’t see how you could argue it doesn’t add value.

Fully agree, Matt. That’s also why I wrote: “Just take this chance to create new opportunities”.
