Demand Quantity Available

Hi , going to Manufacturing > Planning > Order planning my question is on Demand Qty Available , & Needed Quantity I know the formula is Demand Qty _ Demand Qty Available = Needed Qty …okay … very logic Two fields must be known in order to execute the formula Demand Qty is known …okay… form sales line or from PO 1 ? If Available Qty is the known ?then from where the system is getting it ? 2 ? if ques 1 is right then the field needed qty can be the calculated field and there is no need to question 2 If I am thinking wrongly … pls correct nmy understanding

Hi Jouhayna Not sure I understand your questions. However the Demand Quantity is how many you need: If the demand is a sales line, then it is the value in the Quantity field (of that sales line). If the demand is a component line, then it is the value in the Expected Quantity field (of that component line). The Demand Quantity Available will be your available stock of these items. This is the projected available balance of the item I believe. Essentially it calculates (simply) how many you need, how many you have got, and therefore, if you need any, how many you need.

Hi Steven , thanks for your usual collaboration & attendance . Yes this what I was thinking to be … the avialble qty is the available stock … I was thinking that the available qty depends either on the inventory qty on item card which is the invoiced qty or on the purchase orde qty on the item card … I tried to put in a new item 300 from item journal … then do sales order 400 … then plan order to check the availabilty… still the qty availabe = 0… which is must to be 300 …demand qty must be 400… needed must be 100 Same I have done the same for purchase qty order … and sales order qty … But availabe qty is neither affected by inventory qty nor by sales order qty nor by purchase order qty … So here my question had been raised… From where this field is affected … there must be something to be affected by …

Hi Jouhayna From the sales order have a look at the line button and item availability by location. Is the “Projected Available Balance Field” = -100? If I create a new item, load an item journal for 300 and then a sales order for 400 I see the Projected Available Balance as -100. If I then run Order Planning I will see a Sales Demand Line equal to the loaded sales order. The quantity needed of the demand line is blank, but if you hit the exppand arrow you see the details of the item creaating the demand and the associated quantities, in my example correctly suggesting 100. Be careful with this tool, it is simple and contains issues, please ensure if you are using it or recommending to use it that it meets the needs of the customer 100%.

Hi steven , I’ve got it . now it works … I was entering in the item journal nothing in location code … the hint that helps me is to check the availabilty at the sales order . I am repeating my thanks.

Hi Jouhayna I would always recommend making location mandatory in the Inventory Set-up unless they do not buy the locations granule. Saves an awful lot of problems!
