Is there a list somewhere of Security Roles / Duties for accessing certain reports. For example, I have an employee in Purchasing that needs to access sales reports (Gross Margin by Item), but I can’t find a Duty to give to that person that allows them access to the sales reports. I don’t want to just give them a Sales Manager role so that they can see one report. Trial and error on Duties/Privileges is going slowly.
Have you tried using the security diagnostics after running the report to see what the options are?
I find them to be hit or miss because of how they may be explicitly denied by another role of the user, so I would definitely do thorough testing before assigning a role/duty/privilege. Plus best practice for security roles is generally to not assign privileges directly to users, but rather to Duty which is assigned to Role. You can always create a custom security role / custom duty to assign the privilege to though as well.
Thank you, Margie. That is my practice, to add the privilege to a Duty. I’ll check the security diagnostics after running the report. I didn’t know it was there after running.
Thanks again!!
You can also create a task recording and upload to D365 with the Security diagnostics for task recordings and it “should” tell you what is required; doesn’t work 100% of the time, but is very useful:
Sorry my reply was late. This worked great in the situation I had. Thanks!
