CPU performance slow when calculating end dates

Our CPU is taking too long to process the following from a client: when one changes the start date of a released Production Order in Manufacturing, calculating the end date takes as long as 50 seconds from the client of just one order. If we have to do several of this in any given day, you can just imagine slowness of this process. Technical info of the server: 2 Pentium III Xeon processors 1.5Gig of RAM Hard drives: Nav Financials and Server on Raid 1 discs [18G ea SCSI] Dbase on Raid5 SCSI Database does not yet exceed 2G; we have at least 30G free on the RAID5 and lots on the RAIDI Network speed 100Mbs; switches, one subnet - no router between clients and server. Client: 256Mb RAM; Win 98 second ed, 600Mhz Celeron. Configuration changes on server: We increased the cache to 700Mb because working on 200Mb was too slow - however no performance improvement. Should we decrease it? We also did commit cache = yes We have renamed CPUMONI to .old If we do the same job on the server, it takes 4 seconds. What is your advice to speed up our performance?

I suggest the following because in two situations with similar complaints (fast on the server, slow on the client), it helped. Both of the sites were running Advanced Distribution, not Manufacturing. What is the configuration of your network connections? We changed the server to two 100MB/10MB NICs (two data paths rather than one), changed all the connections to high speed switches, changed the critical workstations to 100MB NICs, put all the 10MB workstations on their own network loop. The biggest difference was the switches, then the 100MB/10MB NICs. We cut response times on problem functions by a factor of 5 to 10 (i.e. 5 to 10 times faster). Test the switches first by isolating a couple of workstations and putting them on a switch (rather than a hub or router) to see if it makes a difference. Before you do any of the (good) suggestions from David, you might want to try and identify the problem by running Navision’s Nettest tools, which are found on any product CD. Based on your description I also suspect a network problem.
