Consumables

Where can I find documentation on any consumables processing in ax 2012?

What I want to do… Purchase asset, let’s say a die used for production. Bring die into inventory and have inventory value for the die. Be able to consume against the die inventory based on production. For example, die can last 50 production orders and I want the die to be consumed automatically through production. I do not want the die on my production bill of materials because I do not want the cost of the die to factor into my finished good’s cost.

How can I do this in AX 2012? The functionality seems limited for this type of item. There are plenty of “consumables” in the real world, so maybe I am thinking about this the wrong way.

Any help is appreciated!

Just a suggestion, I don´t know if there is a better way

Buy the die as service ítem so the cost goes to the apropiate accounts, then make an inventory movement journal for an ítem that represents the die, but with its ítem model group making no accounting (post physical/financial = No), therefore you will have inventory to consume in your production orders in the proportion required so you can control the shelflife of your die while it makes no impact in the cost of your production orders.
