CODBC & Windows Logins

I am having a problem with the odbc driver that I’m using. I can connect to my Nav3.60 db using a database user but not a windows user account. For example, when I’m setting up the system dsn and try to select a company, it will ask for a username and password. If I use a database user it works. But if I use a windows user it doesn’t and will not give me a choice of companies. Here are the specifics… Navision 3.60 CODBC 3.60.0.11353 I have both database and windows login accounts Any help would be appreciated. Mike Scott

The user must be in the Navision db, this is a pure security issue. You really wouldn’t want it any other way, if you want to use Windows/AD accounts-set them up identically in Navision.

I have both Navision database and Windows Login accouts setup. Even when I use a Windows Login account with Super permissions, it doesn’t work. Any other ideas?

Windows and Navision are not “synched” up so as to allow the permissions to pass thru. (like TS or Citrix can) Sorry, but if the id and password on both are not identical, no company selection allowed.

John - Thanks for your imput! Would you clarify for me? Are you saying that database login accounts and Windows Login accounts don’t sync? If so, that doesn’t suprise me because I have always treated them as unique accounts. I currently have only 1 database account called “dbuser” and over a hundred Windows login accounts that are setup for my users. Are you suggesting that you have to create a database login account and a Windows login account for each user?

Put it this way. If you have Active Directory set up and a User called Joe with a password of secret, unless this is identical in Navision, you are out of luck. I see the security problem, but I wish that when a user logs into Navision that has an identical Windows/Navision id and password that it would take you straight into the last company you used/or allow you to select a company. That is what I mean by pass-thru authentication, it works great for Citrix. Can’t imagine life without it.

When I refer to Windows login accounts, I mean a user that has an A/D account and also has been added no Navision as a Windows Login account. Those are the accounts that codbc will not recognize. When you add a Windows login account into Navision, you don’t specify a password. Are we talking about two different things?

I see what you are talking about, I have seen the same thing running Crystal thru C/ODBC. Sorry for the misunderstanding. This ODBC driver for 3.6 is basically useless.
