When I go to Inventory Management > Common Forms > Item Details > Setup > Warehouse Items I always have one line that has a blank warehouse and I can not enter anything on the Locations Tab. I can add a second with a specific warehouse and location. My problem is, I want the new line to be the default so Master Planning will use that location to determine if there is sufficient stock and determine what needs to be ordered. Right now, Master Planning is using the blank warehouse/location so it always wants me to order parts for the new production orders when I have existing stock in a specific warehouse/location. Can anyone tell me how to change the default warehouse/location or at least change the data in the default.
Thanks, Jerry
I don’t think this is your issue, if you want your master plan to see locations you should first have active Location dimension and enable Coverage plan by dimension on your Dimension Group. Then you can also set your item coverage rules when you get requirements from specific locations.

Yep to plan by location (really do not do this) you need to configure the dimension group to plan at this level.
Hi Favricio,
Your right, what I really want to do is have Master Planning see all the inventory that is available and only suggest orders for items with insufficient quantity. I have Coverage Plan by Dimension (for warehouse and location) enabled in my Dimension Group. I also have item coverage set for each of the items. When I defined the Item Coverage, I also specified the warehouse and location for the item. I also have Warehouse Items defined where I also specify the warehouse and picking locations but I can’t remove the blank one. When I run master scheduling and I look at the Planned Order details, I see everything that is required to produce the assemblies with no warehouse or location. Yet, I have plenty of items in specific locations for everything. Master Planning should not be telling me that I need to order any item since there are plenty in stock at a specific location. It appears to me that Master Planning is only looking at the blank locations which contains no items so it is recommending that I order them. Any suggestions on what I’m doing wrong?
Thanks, Jerry
It will never see all stock because it is not a dynamic suggestion system it is rule based. First you need not to activate item coverage at location level then tun the plan. If you need it to run across warehoues on the item coverage setup by item you need to tell it the rules, so purchase at A but replenish A from B.
Also look at your BOM is there a warerhouse on the line or are you using work centre consumption with production units?
On my BOM lines I can not enter a warehouse or location, the fields are disabled, although I would like to know how to enable them.
I’m not sure what you mean by “… then tun the plan”, can you explain. When you said “…you need to tell it the rules, so purchase at A but replenish A from B”, how do I go about doing that. I’ve looked at Item Details > Setup > Item Coverage and Master Planning > Setup > Item Setup and I don’t see where I can tell AX to do this. Any help would be appreciated.
Hi Jerry
You cannot enter a location on the BOM line, it is not functionality within AX. You enter the warehouse, but only if the item has a dimension group requiring warehouse. Also there is the work centre consumption flag which is a different method of consumption.
tun=run, a spelling mistake, you need to run master planning.
On the item coverage record from Item Details - Setup Button - Item Coverage, you need to create a new line for the source warehouse. This will only be available as an option if the dimension group warehouse line is set to plan by item coverage. Then on the general tab you have a planned order type. It will depend upon the configuration of the warehouse, but you can change this to transfer order and define the refilling warehouse.
